Computers

A “Mac-Man”

A RadioShack Coco was my very first computer in 1981, and incidentally, the only one on which I could proramme. The language was BASIC ( Beginner's All Purpose Simplified Instruction Code ). From there, after a couple of years I went to a PC using DOS ( Disk Operating System ). From thence to a Mac and I have been a Mac fan ever since. Consequently, I never learnt Windows. This was somewhat to the dismay of my employer when I sold for RadioShack for five years.

More recently, and very ironically, I have been hired to teach part time .... Windows and Microsoft Office! Before I could teach it, my boss loaned me a Windows machine to learn the subject matter. The organization is the “Computer Lending Library”; a division of the Selkirk and District Learning Centre. ( Click the SDLC button below. ) I teach on an 'As needed' basis subbing for the regular instructor. Normally, I, along with a very competent team of co-workers Mike, Hamish and recently Rob spend Fridays preparing computers to lend to CLL clients for a two year period. If you have Fridays free to volunteer to work on computers in order to help a lot of people, and have fun doing it, We would love to make a space for you.

We and our friend Roy, who liaises between us and the head office, as well as the boss at the SDLC all belong to the Muddy Waters Computer Society. For anyone in Winnipeg this can be a very beneficial club to join. The motto is “Users Helping Users”, and that is what we try to do on the first Tuesday of every month except July and August. Join us at 19:00 hrs, in a church basement at 3390 Portage Avenue. ( Click the MWCS button for more information. ) The SDLC hosts the club's website and this one.
